FAQ

It’s a great way to promote civic pride! A dynamic City symbol can become a gathering place and rallying point from which to draw attention to the uniqueness of Oshawa, its people and its attractions.
Yes, this is very important. Oshawa is an indigenous name meaning a crossing point from the canoe to the trail.
The critical timeline outlined in the brochure indicates once City Council gives the OSHAWA SIGN Team endorsement this would green light the team members advancing a sponsorship and donation campaign. Then with the timeline for construction and installation the goal is to have the sign erected before March 8, 2024
The two companies that constructed the HAMILTON and TORONTO signs both indicated that numerous interactive features can be incorporated into the design. The OSHAWA SIGN team members envision special changeable lighting for certain memorable occasions, such as a red and white light display on Canada Day. However, the most interactive feature will be to incorporate electronic displays of local and indigenous artwork on the SIGN LETTERS, changeable quarterly with the seasons or to suit a variety of occasions and important dates.
This is still to be determined. The OSHAWA SIGN team will not have the final say on the location, as the goal is to have a full public consultation and ultimate approval by Oshawa Council.
Similar to the HAMILTON & BARRIE signs, the team will be working hard to ensure the initial cost is entirely or primarily by private fundraising and sponsorship, with additional voluntary contributions from individuals, families, associations and corporations, all who care about OSHAWA and have a strong interest in Oshawa succeeding in its next 100 years as a great City in Canada!
This initiative was an idea among several Oshawa residents who are dedicated to seeing their City enter its next century with enthusiasm and appreciation for living in and or working in Oshawa and being past or current Oshawans. They are independent individuals who care about Oshawa and are working to encourage others to join this initiative and help with its success.

Yes, the team will ensure the OSHAWA SIGN is barrier free. It will be accessible for everyone to get close to it and enjoy, take selfies and photos for memories of their time in our City.
